Revitalisation of a Strip Mall

The conversion of a derelict supermarket and its surrounding car park transforms the weakly defined centre of a Greater Graz suburb into a revitalised commercial strip. New seating, lighting, and outdoor activity give the site a more public character, extending its commercial programme into a communal setting that remains active into the evening.

A lightweight steel structure extends around the parking lot, giving definition, orientation, and a clear architectural order to an otherwise residual space. Integrating lighting, signage and planting, the frame transforms the parking area from mere infrastructure into a legible shared exterior space and gives the dispersed commercial ensemble a stronger collective identity.
