Andreas Lechner’s teaching and research share a common subject: existing buildings and territories. Studios, seminars and funded projects survey them, draw them to a common standard, compare them with precedents and test their capacity for transformation through design. Drawing and mapping make territorial relationships legible and identify recurring spatial structures across otherwise dissimilar buildings. Comparison grounds architectural judgement; design tests what the existing fabric permits, what it constrains and which new uses it might accommodate, producing knowledge alongside proposals. As a long-standing voting member of the Expert Commission for the Historic Centre of Graz (ASVK), Lechner brought this design and research expertise into civic decision-making under public scrutiny, ︎︎︎Services
